For the Gatsby Benchmark Careers Guidelines. 1-2 hour fully resourced careers lesson. Firstly, students will investigate what employability skills are. They will then take stock of the employability skills they already have by examining the skills they have developed through their time at school. They then focus on the skills they want to develop further, according to their prospective lines of employment.

For the Gatsby Careers Guidelines - A careers assembly lasting around 20-25 minutes (including short clip) with a focus on why Careers Education is so important and how students can make the most of all the opportunities presented to them whilst in school. The assembly examines the cases of two fictional ex-students, Alisha and Jack, who didn’t take Careers Education seriously and ended up paying the price for it by adding years on to their lives in the time it took them to eventually find their ideal jobs. The slides in the previews are just a sample and not the whole assembly.
The assembly includes optional interactive elements, a 4 minute clip, a lot of motivational information, questions for students to answer and a little humour.

Students will uncover the dark truth behind the gang lifestyle, looking at some of Britain’s most notorious gangs, assessing the recent successes of the police in smashing the system and making arrests. 2 HOURS OF CONTENT - New, double lesson all about how we appear to others online and how poor presentation can taint an employer’s view of us. Over 90% of employers admit to screening potential candidates’ social media, so in this lesson students will examine exactly why employers do this, and what they’re looking for. Students will then assess case studies of seven teenagers with questionable or positive social media profiles, giving advice on how they can improve and what should not be posted or should remain private. They will then assess tweets from celebrities and politicians that either made them lose their jobs, or made them lose face in the public eye, investigating why and what we can learn from these.

AQA Citizenship GCSE Mega Pack
An achievement and aspiration assembly with a focus on achievement. It lasts about 15-20 minutes if clips are watched and questions asked too. The assembly emphasises the value of hard work in achieving your aims, explains why teachers always set high targets and gives inspirational examples of famous and non-famous success stories from people who have worked hard.
It has a couple of jokes thrown in too.

2 HOURS - Careers / PSHE Living in the Wider World lesson which covers in detail how to create fantastic CVs and cover letters when applying for jobs. Students will explore poor, mediocre and excellent versions of each of these, analysing where applicants went wrong and how they could have improved, They will explore what makes a successful cover letter and CV, in detail, and then create their own (templates are included). Includes case study examples, clip tasks, partnered activities and more. All editable and easy to pick up and teach for non-specialists.
The lesson includes a detailed, editable PowerPoint, accompanying worksheets, example CVs and cover letters, paired tasks, clip task, templates and much more. Best suited to KS4 (or KS5) but nothing unsuitable for KS3. Includes detailed lesson plan.

This lesson covers a variety of issues, including cyber-bullying, social media safety, online-scams, data theft and privacy, image sharing and fraud. Students will explore the best safety tips to use as well as why they need to use them, with real and genuine online dangers explained in context.
